We are so predictable. There is really nothing new under the sun. This morning I read posts from men criticizing the worship style and the music at the Resolved Conference. The spirit of Michal abounds, even when God has taught us in His Word to think differently.
You all know the scriptures: In 2 Samuel 6:14, David is described as dancing and shouting before the LORD, and worshipping with his musical instruments. His wife Michal then squelches His joy in the Lord as He arrives home to bless His household with the overflowing joy that floods his heart. She accuses him of worldly motivations and of doing what he was doing out of a desire to entertain the women and draw attention to himself. Would we be critical of, or even offended by, his worship "style"? Yes, I believe that most would be. How pathetic we are. How man-centered! How self-centered! How we so easily judge the hearts of others.
Worship is a joyful celebration of who God is. We are to worship with all our might.
I feel like dancing many times, but know better than to do so in front of Christians! I therefore squelch the God given desire in my heart because I know people and know that should I actually express my worship to God in that way it would only serve to distract them and cause them to judge me based on their own imagination of my motives.
I will find a field where I can be alone with the Lord and dance for Him- for He knows why I am dancing.
Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.Psalm 149:3
