An Anniversary Tradition

Today is our 4th Wedding Anniversary. It has become a tradition (if you can count 3 years as a tradition), to purchase a living plant for our garden. Our best friend, Deni, started this when she gifted us a beautiful potted Hydrangea for our First Wedding Anniversary. The following year we bought 2 more Hydrangea.

Unfortunately, when we moved from our little apartment, we were unable to take our Hydrangea's with us. Oh I suppose we could have; but, they had become part of a garden that we started at the base of the stairs leading up to our apartment, and right before we moved, the management decided to build a garden wall to enhance what we had done, so we would have felt badly about digging up all the plants.

Yesterday, we took a trip to the Garden Center with the intention of buying a large potted Hydrangea. As we were going up and down the aisles, we came across one of the most beautiful plants I think I have ever seen.

It is pictured above and is called a "Bleeding Heart". It is a vining plant and can grow as tall as 16 feet! We decided to also purchase a couple 8 pack "color spots" and I went with all white blossoms to fill the space between the fence and the garden box.

So begins our Anniversary tradition in the Wood's New Secret Garden.

While working inside, trying to finish up some last minute projects, a funny little spider crawled out from behind molding in the kitchen that I was attempting to paint. Look at the little bucked tooth face he has on the back of his little body. P.S. The black and white spider was smaller than the head of a screw.

Painted Patio Wall Transformation - Our New "Secret Garden"

Michael and I have discovered a Secret Garden every where we have lived since getting married in 2010. Whether it was the creek that ran behind our first apartment in Sacramento or the tiny little space of our 520 square foot, 1962 single-wide, mobile home in Rancho Cordova, California, we were always able to discover and create a unique sanctuary to call home. Even though, in years past, we did what we could to make our surroundings uniquely wonderful, we never had the room to go really crazy until now. The Project!

So, I had a huge jar of left over glass pebbles--you know the kind that you get at the craft store in those little net bags. I use the flawless ones to make my custom art pendants and rather than throw away the flawed ones, I kept collecting them in a large glass jar hoping someday I would come up with a brilliant idea. Well, here it is! It's a work in progress... Clip I first cut out pages from an old pocket Bible that was falling apart and missing pages. Clip I them spent a good part of a day, decoupaging them to a long section of the hallway wall. Clip Once the decoupage had dried; I began at the bottom of the wall, gluing one glass bead at a time, using (you guessed it) E6000. This process took at least 10 separate, 1 hour sessions. Once I glued about 5 or 6 rows, I used lengths of scotch tape to secure them to the wall and allowed the glue to dry over night before starting another section. Clip This took a really, really, l

This took forever! After transforming the 24 inch Bratz Dolls into "Just K.I.D.S" as part of the campaign to help rescue kids trapped in the sex trafficking industry, I got the crazy idea to convert a vintage suitcase into a doll trunk.
